Experiment to run MS-DOS on Windows10

I will experiment with running MS-DOS about 30 years ago on Windows10 64bit. I can't move it directly, so I'll try using a virtual PC.

Policy

I don't want to pollute my Windows 10 PC in my experiments, so I use VMware's Windows 10.
I've run MS-DOS in a virtual environment in the past, but VMware is no good. In MS-DOS, the CPU power saving mechanism does not work, and even if nothing is done, the load on the CPU will be 100%. That's where his Microsoft Virtual PC comes in. The power saving mechanism of the CPU becomes effective by making the dedicated software attached to Virtual PC resident in MS-DOS.

So I run Windows 10 x86 on Windows 10 x64 with VMware, in which he runs MS-DOS on Virtual PC. In other words, it means running the virtual PC inside the virtual PC.

VirtualPC was active until Windows7, and Windows7 had WindowsXP mode, but internally he was running WindowsXP on VirtualPC.
In Windows 8, he moved to Hyper-V, so Virtual PC hasn't seen the light of day since then.

Install Virtual PC on Windows 10

Download VirtualPC

Virtual PC has been removed from Microsoft's site and is no longer available for download. However, it can be downloaded from this site.

Install VirtualPC

I couldn't install Virtual PC on Windows 10. Did MS abandon past MS products? Is this the pressure to use Hyper-V?

Install Virtual PC on Windows 7

Change policy to run Windows7 x86 on VMware and install VirtualPC on it.
The result is this.

Windows7 x86 runs on Windows10 x64, and MS-DOS runs on it.

Experimental result

I couldn't run MS-DOS directly on Windows 10, but I was able to run it safely by sandwiching Windows 7.
Before I knew it, it was harvest that I found that the old virtual software was not working.

In the future, the transition to UEFI will progress with Windows 11, the BIOS will be unsupported, and past OS will be catastrophically damaged.
Therefore, the virtual PC environment is very valuable. Those who want to keep the current environment should consider it.
